A tragic accident occurred in Lake County, in which a vehicle crashed into a house, resulting in the fatality of one of the passengers. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI), according to law enforcement officials. The accident took place in the early hours of the morning. A 2001 Dodge Durango crashed into a house in the 26700 block of West Vista Drive in Unincorporated Mundelein.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Mario Gomez-Gutierrez, was arrested and charged with Aggravated DUI causing death. He was also charged with DUI Alcohol/Drugs, DUI Alcohol/0.08, and Driving on a Revoked License. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Gomez-Gutierrez was driving the vehicle when he lost control, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash into a house.
One of the passengers in the vehicle, a man in his twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the house were not reported to be harmed.
Following the crash, Gomez-Gutierrez was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was subsequently taken into custody. His bond was set at $1 million, and he is due in court for a hearing on the charges later this month.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the incident. They are working in conjunction with the Lake County Coroner's Office to determine the exact cause of the victim's death. The crash has left the community in shock and mourning, serving as a tragic reminder of the potential consequences of driving under the influence.
