Conversion of hotel into Lake County's first permanent family shelter underway

Exciting news for Lake County, Illinois as it witnesses the conversion of a former hotel into its first permanent family shelter. The project, spearheaded by PADS Lake County, is a remarkable initiative aimed at combating homelessness and providing a safe haven for struggling families. The new shelter will be named "Bridge House" reflecting its purpose as a bridge to a better future for its residents.

The former hotel, which boasts 30,000 square feet, is being transformed into a 35-room shelter. This generous space will allow for individual rooms for families, a significant upgrade from the communal living situations often found in temporary shelters. It is expected to be fully operational by the summer of 2023.

The project, funded by Illinois Housing Development Authority, has a total budget of $7.6 million, $4.2 million of which was allocated for the purchase of the property.
