NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, recently played a crucial role in spreading cheer to underprivileged children in the local community. This initiative was conducted in partnership with the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS), aiming at providing gifts to children who might otherwise not receive any during the holiday season.
With the help of the employees at the center, NASA Glenn was able to donate over 1,000 gifts to the DCFS Holiday Gift Drive. This generous act was a result of various fundraising events, including a virtual silent auction and a bake sale. The donated gifts included items such as clothing, toys, books, and necessities that the children needed.
The Glenn Research Center has been participating in the Holiday Gift Drive for more than two decades now. Each year, the employees at the center receive gift tags with the names and ages of children who need gifts. The employees then purchase and wrap the gifts before delivering them to DCFS for distribution.
Even though COVID-19 altered the usual way of conducting the gift drive, the employees at Glenn Research Center did not let the pandemic dampen their spirit of giving. They adapted to the situation and used a virtual platform to conduct the silent auction, ensuring that the children in need did not miss out on the joy of receiving gifts.
This act of kindness by NASA not only highlights its commitment to advancing scientific research and exploration but also its dedication towards supporting the community. The initiative has brought smiles to many faces and has indeed made the holiday season a little brighter for children in need.
